Rhinoplastic Risks

Just like any type of surgery, rhinoplastic surgery is not without risk. If you choose a rhinoplastic treatment that requires sedation, you should keep in mind that sedation always is linked to some risks. Regardless of whether your procedure is carried out under sedation or not, there is naturally also a risk of infection. Other rhinoplastic risks are allergic reactions to sedation, painkillers and antibacterial medication. The formation of keloid scars where the incisions were made is another problem.

You can reduce the rhinoplastic risks by carefully following the instructions from your surgeon prior to the surgery as well as afterwards. The rhinoplasty risks will increase if you go through surgery when you have a cold, or shortly after recovering from a cold. It is therefore advisable to wait at least two weeks after a cold before you have surgery.

Most surgeons will tell you to stay in bed for 6-8 hours after rhinoplasty surgery, and the rhinoplastic risks will increase if you leave your bed before this time. It is common for rhinoplastic clinics to keep you for 1-2 days before sending you home. The bandage must be kept on much longer.

Pain is another risk linked to rhinoplastic surgery, but is usually short-lived. Edema as well as hematoma can develop during the first two weeks after the procedure. Some patients report a change in sensibility at the tip of the nose.

You can decrease the rhinoplastic risks by avoiding sport activities for at least 3 weeks after your rhinoplasty surgery. Injuries to the nose must naturally be avoided at all costs, and a high temperature as well as sever coldness is highly unsuitable.
